Building firms must step up their mentoring efforts to help tackle the sector's deepening skills crisis, says the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). It estimates the UK construction industry needs 47,860 additional workers a year until 2029.

Construction management companies are likely to play a bigger role in regulatory scrutiny of high-rise buildings. They will face more demands to provide details for documents that make up applications for building assessment certificates.

The UK construction industry is under mounting strain with 70% of companies experiencing late payments from customers in the past 12 months, according to research by Lopay, a partner of the National Federation of Builders.
